Biology Aids or Technicians (Soils) perform any of the following or many similar duties: Work from an outline, check extensive data in the field of fish habitat condition (stream or lake); record results; make census counts of various species or record observations, based on guidelines provided, on species condition or stream surveys; make assist in construction or placement of habitat improvement structures, fences, gabions, trash catchers, etc. The work is performed outdoors in steep rugged terrain; to include steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; positions require physical exertions, such as, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Individuals should be capable of working alone, or with other people, during early morning hours, night, or during the day. Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant''s ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. GS-2 Biological Aid - 3 months of general experience; OR A high school diploma or the equivalent. GS-3 Biological Aid - 6 months of general work experience; OR Successful completion of 1 year (45 quarter or 30 semester hours) of study above high school, that included at least 6 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture or mathematics; OR A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. GS-4 Biological Technician - 6 months of general and 6 months of specialized work experience. Examples of specialized experience may include prior specific work experience in wildlife, fisheries, plants, or soils, working from an outline checking extensive data relating to the specific area; and collecting samples, or observing and recording specific information (i.e., vegetative cover, water quality samples, flora or fauna); OR Successful completion of 2 years (90 quarter or 60 semester hours) of study above high school, that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to this position; OR A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. GS-5 Biological Technician - one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience may include, depending on assignment participating in, banding, tagging, and releasing wildlife; inventorying rare, and endangered species habitat based on guidelines; and taking soil samples by layer and root samples; OR Successful completion of a full 4 year (180 quarter or 120 semester hours) course of study leading to a bachelor''s degree that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to this position; OR A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. GS-6 Biological Technician - one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level. Examples of specialized experience may include surveying, mapping and documenting a variety of wildlife species and habitat conditions; compiling occurrence and distribution data, cover maps, and herbarium study mounts; assisting in performing fisheries studies and in constructing fish habitat improvement structures; and compiling data obtained through soil inventory and assembling data into a logical sequence for review; OR Successful completion of one-half year (13.5 quarter or 9 semester hours) of graduate study directly related to the work of the position; OR A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. GS-7 Biological Technician - one year of specialized work experience equivalent to GS-6 level. Examples of specialized experience may include researching, compiling and tabulating a full range of wildlife inventory data; leading or conducting field inventories of soil types to develop intensive soil information; and collecting ecological site information for sensitive, threatened or endangered plants to determine factors limiting distribution and potential for enhancement; OR Successful completion of one full year (27 quarter or 18 semester hours) of graduate education directly related to the work of the position; OR A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
